It might seem too early to start thinking about the biggest sales event of the year, but Black Friday home deals always come around quickly. That's where here at Ideal Home we're already working hard to curate all of the information you need to shop efficiently this November. Black Friday always falls on the final weekend of November, meaning the date set for this year is the 24th of November. What is Black Friday?

Often hailed as the biggest shopping day of the year, Black Friday falls on the last Friday of November, so the next time it will roll around is Friday 24th November 2023.

The term Black Friday originated in the US to denote the first day following Thanksgiving when retailers would cut prices to draw holidaymakers to shop their store's sales. Driven by global brands, the price-slashing event soon crossed the pond, and now Black Friday – closely followed by Cyber Monday – has become one of the UK's biggest consumer extravaganzas, rivaling traditional Boxing Day sales.

The event has also spread to encompass more than one day, with many retailers now starting Black Friday discounting earlier and earlier each year.

When is Black Friday? This year the price-slashing event is due to fall on Friday November 24th in 2023, but many retailers have started discounting early. We’ll keep you informed of all the biggest sales and best deals right here as they go live, but with stock flying off shelves fast and many popular items already out of stock, it's worth moving fast if you spot a good deal in the build-up.

When is Cyber Monday 2023?

Cyber Monday falls the Monday directly after Black Friday, so that makes it Monday 27th November 2023. However, based on last year, sale offers may continue for another full week – if stocks allow.

What to shop this Black Friday

Whether you're looking to make housework easier with one of the best vacuum cleaners or save on Christmas gifting by nabbing a deal on one of the best coffee machines for the coffee aficionado in your life, Black Friday is the sales event for savings on appliances, both large and small.

However, Black Friday is no longer just about smart tech, it's also an opportunity to save on items like mattresses, furniture, and gardening essentials; basically any big-ticket item you've been putting off purchasing!

And, it's a great time to think savvy and look ahead to Christmas, whether that's by snapping up one of the best artificial Christmas trees on sale, finding a great deal on a luxury advent calendar, or getting your gifting sorted at a discount.

Are Black Friday bargains as good as they seem?

There are some great deals – last year we spotted cheap Nespresso machines, budget-friendly mattresses and even top-rated vacuums at less than half price.

However, some retailers do use Black Friday as an opportunity to clear out old stock, or even increase the prices of items beforehand to make the deals look better on the day.

How can I avoid being ripped off on Black Friday?

‘It’s easy to get carried away, so make a list of what you want in advance,’ advises Danny Munday, general manager of HotUKDeals. It also pays to read reviews and compare prices of the models you like, so you know you’re getting a genuine deal. ‘Check the shipping costs before you order, too,’ adds Danny. ‘Some brands charge so much for postage, it cancels out any savings.’

Will my Black Friday purchases arrive by Christmas?

It’s not guaranteed, so check the estimated delivery times and factor in a few extra days on top. Due to the number of people shopping at the same time, some parcels may take longer to arrive than usual.
